W. G. Sebald (1944–2001) was a German writer and literary scholar who lived and taught in England, chiefly at the University of East Anglia. His prose combines fiction, memoir, travel writing, biography, historical investigation, and photography. His major literary works include four internationally acclaimed prose narratives, as well as poetry, literary criticism, and essay collections. He also directed the British Centre for Literary Translation.
