Norman Kingsley Mailer (1923–2007) was an American novelist, journalist, essayist, poet, playwright, biographer, and filmmaker. He helped establish New Journalism and wrote major works of fiction, creative nonfiction, political reportage, literary criticism, biography, poetry, and drama. His honors included two Pulitzer Prizes, the National Book Award, and the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
