Juan Rulfo (1917–1986) was a Mexican writer, screenwriter, and photographer. His principal fiction consists of the short-story collection El llano en llamas, the novel Pedro Páramo, and the novella El gallo de oro. He also published cinematic texts, essays, letters, notebooks, literary criticism, and photographic books, many of the latter appearing posthumously or in collaboration with other editors and writers.
