John Hale Books in Order

John Barry Hale was born in Woolwich, London, in 1926 and died in 1997. After serving in the Royal Navy, he worked in theatre as a stage professional, artistic director, and director, including leadership roles at the Lincoln Repertory Theatre, the Arts Theatre in Ipswich, and the Bristol Old Vic. He became a full-time writer in the 1960s, publishing novels including The Grudge Fight, The Fort, The Love School, and The Whistle Blower, as well as a novelization of his screenplay for Mary, Queen of Scots. He also wrote stage plays, television dramas, and film screenplays, including work on Anne of the Thousand Days, The Mind of Mr. Soames, Mary, Queen of Scots, and The Whistle Blower.
