J.D. Vance is an American author, memoirist, lawyer, investor, and politician. Born James David Vance in Middletown, Ohio, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, earned degrees from Ohio State University and Yale Law School, and worked in law and venture capital before entering politics. His memoir Hillbilly Elegy brought national attention to his Appalachian and Rust Belt family background. He later served as a U.S. senator from Ohio and became vice president of the United States in 2025.
