Frank Patrick Herbert Jr. (1920–1986) was an American novelist, journalist, and short-story writer whose fiction explored ecology, politics, religion, evolution, technology, and systems of power. His six-novel Dune series is his best-known work; he also wrote numerous standalone novels, collaborative novels, short-fiction collections, poetry, nonfiction, and posthumously published fiction.
