Trudi Canavan is an Australian fantasy author and illustrator from Melbourne. Her writing career began with the award-winning short story "Whispers of the Mist Children" in 1999. She became internationally known for The Black Magician Trilogy and has since written several connected and standalone fantasy novels, as well as short fiction and the Doctor Who novella Salt of the Earth.
