Thomas Stearns Eliot (1888–1965) was an American-born British poet, critic, essayist, playwright, and editor. His major works include The Waste Land, Four Quartets, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, and a sequence of influential books on poetry, criticism, culture, and religion. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948 and worked for much of his career at Faber and Faber.
