Author guide
Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a Scottish novelist, poet, historian, editor, and antiquarian. His narrative poems made him one of the most celebrated British writers before his Waverley novels established the historical novel as a major form. He also wrote histories, biographies, travel writing, political pamphlets, essays, plays, and children's histories, and edited important works of earlier Scottish and English literature.
