Robert Ranke Graves (1895–1985) was an English poet, novelist, critic, mythographer, translator, and memoirist. A veteran of the First World War, he published more than one hundred books across poetry, fiction, literary criticism, mythology, biblical studies, history, autobiography, children's literature, and translation. His major works include Goodbye to All That, I, Claudius, Claudius the God, The White Goddess, The Greek Myths, and the Sergeant Lamb novels. He lived for much of his later life in Deià, Mallorca.
