Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926) was a Prague-born German-language poet and writer. His major works include The Book of Hours, New Poems, The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge, the Duino Elegies, and Sonnets to Orpheus. He also published short fiction, plays, art monographs, essays, correspondence, and poetry in French.
