He studied at Cornell University, where Fool on the Hill began as his senior thesis, and has made novel-writing his primary occupation since its publication. His fiction ranges across fantasy, science fiction, thriller, horror, historical fantasy, alternate history, and comic literature. His novel Lovecraft Country was adapted into an HBO series, and The Destroyer of Worlds continues that novel's story.
