Mary Doria Russell is an American novelist whose fiction combines rigorous research, literary craft, and compelling narrative drive. She holds a Ph.D. in biological anthropology from the University of Michigan and formerly taught anatomy at Case Western Reserve University. Her seven novels range from the science-fiction first-contact novels The Sparrow and Children of God to historical fiction set in World War II Italy, 1921 Cairo, the American West, and Michigan’s Copper Country.
