Madeleine L'Engle (1918–2007) was an American author whose work ranged from adult fiction and memoir to poetry, religious reflection, drama, picture books, and novels for children and young adults. Her fiction frequently connects scientific ideas, family relationships, moral responsibility, faith, and wonder. She is best known for the Time Quintet, the Austin Family novels, and the O'Keefe novels. A Wrinkle in Time won the 1963 Newbery Medal, and A Ring of Endless Light received a Newbery Honor. Her Crosswicks Journals and other nonfiction works explore creativity, family, spirituality, and the writing life.
