Larissa Volokhonsky
Larissa Volokhonsky was born into a Jewish family in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg. After graduating from Leningrad State University with a degree in mathematical linguistics, she worked in the Institute of Marine Biology in Vladivostok and traveled widely in Sakhalin Island and Kamchatka from 1968 to 1973. She emigrated to Israel in 1973, later moved to the United States, and studied at Yale Divinity School and St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary before beginning her long collaboration with her husband Richard Pevear.
