L. Frank Baum (1856–1919), born Lyman Frank Baum, was an American author best known for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its thirteen sequels. He also wrote fantasy novels, adventure fiction, juvenile series under several pseudonyms, poetry, short-story collections, nonfiction, plays, and illustrated works. His pseudonyms included Edith Van Dyne, Floyd Akers, Schuyler Staunton, Suzanne Metcalf, Laura Bancroft, John Estes Cooke, and Capt. Hugh Fitzgerald.
