Joseph Campbell (1904–1987) was an American mythologist, writer, editor, and teacher whose work compared myths, religions, literature, psychology, and art across cultures. His major studies include The Hero with a Thousand Faces, The Masks of God, The Mythic Image, and The Historical Atlas of World Mythology. His later public conversations with Bill Moyers made his ideas widely influential.
