Sir James Matthew Barrie (1860–1937) was a Scottish novelist and playwright whose work ranged from Kailyard fiction, memoir, essays, and literary sketches to major Edwardian dramas. He is best known for the Peter Pan works, but also wrote influential plays including The Admirable Crichton, Quality Street, What Every Woman Knows, Dear Brutus, and Mary Rose.
