Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811–1896) was an American author, abolitionist, educator, and reformer. Her writing ranged from antislavery fiction and domestic essays to historical novels, travel memoirs, children's literature, religious prose, poetry, biography, and drama. She published under her own name and, for some domestic writings, the pseudonym Christopher Crowfield.
