George Alec Effinger (1947–2002) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer whose work combined surrealism, satire, mystery, and speculative ideas. He wrote the Marîd Audran novels set in the Budayeen, the Bird of Time novels, Planet of the Apes tie-in novels, numerous standalone novels, and several influential collections of short fiction.
