David Heska Wanbli Weiden is an enrolled citizen of the Sicangu Lakota Nation, a novelist, professor, and author of Indigenous crime fiction. His books include the Virgil Wounded Horse novels Winter Counts and Wisdom Corner, and the children's biography Spotted Tail. He holds an MFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts, a law degree from the University of Denver, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a professor of English and Native American and Indigenous Studies at Stony Brook University and has received the PEN America Writing for Justice Fellowship, MacDowell fellowships, and other fellowships and residencies.
