Christopher Priest (1943–2024) was a British novelist, short-story writer, essayist, and critic. His work ranges from early science fiction and reality-bending speculative fiction to literary novels concerned with memory, identity, perception, history, and unreliable narration. His major works include Inverted World, The Affirmation, The Prestige, The Separation, The Islanders, The Gradual, and Airside. He also wrote nonfiction about film, science fiction publishing, and J. G. Ballard, and edited speculative-fiction anthologies.
