Candice Carty-Williams is a British novelist, showrunner, and culture writer born and raised in South London by way of Jamaica. Her debut novel, Queenie, became an internationally acclaimed bestseller and won the British Book Award for Book of the Year. She has also written the novels People Person and Queenie Is Working on It, the young adult novella Empress & Aniya, and the separately published short work Notting Hill Carnival: A West Side Story. She adapted Queenie for television and created and wrote the original drama series Champion.
