Brit Bennett was born and raised in Southern California, graduated from Stanford University, and earned an MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan. Her debut novel, The Mothers, was a New York Times bestseller, and her second novel, The Vanishing Half, became an instant number-one New York Times bestseller and was longlisted for the National Book Award. Bennett also writes middle-grade historical fiction for American Girl, including the Claudie Wells series. Her essays have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, The Paris Review, and Jezebel.
