James Brian Jacques was an English writer, broadcaster, musician, and storyteller from Liverpool. He wrote the 22-volume Redwall series, the Castaways of the Flying Dutchman trilogy, the Urso Brunov picture books, illustrated Redwall books, short-story collections, Liverpool-themed nonfiction and humor, plays, poetry, and other children's works. His books are characterized by animal fantasy, adventure, vivid food descriptions, songs, verse, and themes of courage and community.
