bell hooks Books in Order
Born Gloria Jean Watkins, bell hooks took her pen name from her maternal great-grandmother and deliberately styled it in lowercase. She authored more than thirty books spanning black feminist theory, cultural criticism, education, memoir, poetry, children’s literature, and conversations with other intellectuals. Her influential works include Ain’t I a Woman, Feminist Theory, Teaching to Transgress, All About Love, and Appalachian Elegy. She taught at institutions including Berea College, where the bell hooks Center was established in her honor. She died in Berea, Kentucky, in 2021.
