Alex Haley was an American writer and journalist whose work explored African American history, identity, family, and ancestry. He collaborated with Malcolm X on The Autobiography of Malcolm X and wrote Roots: The Saga of an American Family, the landmark historical novel based on his genealogical research. His posthumously completed novels Queen and Mama Flora's Family were finished with David Stevens.
